TO ‘BE’ OR ‘NOT’ TO BE GLUTEN-FREE!
WHAT'S THE FUSS ABOUT GLUTEN-FREE, ANYWAY?
We hear about going gluten-free every where we go! And more and more gluten-free (GF) products are popping up on every isle in every supermarket across the nation, and even across the world.
Heck, when I was in Ireland and Norway they had gluten-free foods and meals on all the restaurant menus. Even beer, vodka and rum manufacturers are becoming Gluten-Free.
So I am here to help you become more informed about the gluten-free craze, so YOU can decide, for yourself, if you think it's a good idea to look into going GF.
WHAT ACTUALLY IS GLUTEN?
Gluten is a protein mostly found in wheat, barley and rye. It's what keeps the chewy-ness in the dough and helps it rise and keep its beautiful shape.
YES? NO? MAYBE?
A FEW REASONS WHY MOST PEOPLE GO GLUTEN-FREE:
1) Most foods that contain Gluten are highly processed, which means they are void of nutrients to nourish your body.
2) Gluten acts like a glue on the intestinal tract by gluing down the villi, in the intestinal tract. Villi aids the intestines in absorbing more nutrients and it's hard to do this when you're glued down!
3) Many people cannot properly digest Gluten, causing stress on their digestive system and unwanted symptoms (gas, bloating, headaches, diarrhea, cramps).

HOW TO AVOID GLUTEN:
First off, gluten is easier to avoid than ever before and most manufactures label their products either gluten-free or GF. So start out preparing all your meals with GF foods and GF ingredients.
When dining out, research restaurants online with gluten-free menus before you go. Ask servers to confirm that ingredients in whatever meal you select is GF.
Put gluten-free snacks in your bag, briefcase or purse, so you always have a gluten-free food on-the-go.
WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW:
Choose a day to GF your pantry and go shopping to restock with GF foods.
Search the web on any questions you may have about whether or not a food is GF.
Track your progress to determine if your physical symptoms are getting better as a result of going gluten-free.
A FEW FOODS THAT ARE NATURALLY GLUTEN-FREE:
Unseasoned poultry and meats
Eggs & Cheese and other dairy products
Rice (in its pure form not mixed)
Nuts & Seeds (processed in a facility that's GF to avoid cross contamination)
Oats (processed in a facility that's GF to avoid cross contamination)
Teff (a fine GF grain)
Many companies produce gluten-free foods but these companies are dedicated gluten-free: Udi's, Schar & Glutino. Some of their food items they produce include frozen pizza, pretzels, crackers, tortillas, pie crusts, breads, muffins & cinnamon rolls and they can be yummy!
Now at the center of the gluten-free trend;
YOU decide if you want to give a gluten-free lifestyle a try. If so, then start buying all the foods you love and adore and make them gluten-free.
You'll dump the sugary processed refined foods and you'll stay away from the fried fish and French fries.
