It's artichoke season and I thought this would be a good time and a fun way to practice a little meditation, while enjoying a tasty, nourishing artichoke.
If you've ever taken the time to steam an artichoke and eat it-- leaves, stalk, heart and all, you will know that it takes time, some focus and patience. All of these are traits that benefit a meditation practice.
So why not eat healthy and meditate all in one. An artichoke is so satisfying and nutritious, that this is a great way to do both.
Dyan here (The Health Coach Is In) to show you how to meditate on an artichoke. It's a great way to start eating 'mindfully.'
NO JOKE! IT REALLY IS!
So take 15 minutes to eat your artichoke and give yourself a 15 minute meditation, as well.
Remember, all too often people discard the entire choke to get to the heart.
Firstly, most of the nutrition, antioxidants and phytonutrients are in the leaves. Secondly, pretty much all the joy and meditation is in working your way towards the heart by eating the leaves one by one... by one.
SO HOW DO YOU MEDITATE ON AN ARTICHOKE?
IT'S SO SIMPLE.
LET ME SHOW YOU HOW.....
1) Start by sitting with your cooked artichoke in a quiet spot, alone. Take 3 deep breaths in and out while you do this. Clear your mind as you would for meditation by focusing only on the unusual artichoke flavors.
2) Peel the leaves one by one. As you work your way around the artichoke, peeling off the outer leaves, keep breathing and focusing on the taste and sensations and be mindful of what you're eating.
3) While you eat the heart (a true delicacy) slow and mindful, feel into your OWN heart and what it desires and it's longing for. Listen to what your body has to say.
Meditating and Eating mindfully are two of the best things you can do for your heart and health. It calms your body down and helps regulate your metabolism, so you can stop eating when you're feeling comfortably full.
THANK YOU ARTICHOKE!
REMEMBER: Focus and Patience
A Little Helpful Hint:
Get the highest amount of antioxidants and nutrients (B's, C, A, potassium, fiber) from your Artichoke, by purchasing them when the leaves (stems) are closed, not opened.
