Hello, Dyan here (The Health Coach Is In) to tell you about an article I read in the Greatist by Susie Moore, Life Coach in New York City. This article struck me so deeply that I wanted to share with you what she wrote and the awakening she had.
Susie wrote about an inspiring moment she had late last year when she went out to buy her coffee latte.
She stated; that when she went to take a sip of her favorite coffee after writing a satisfying sentence in her blog, she was surprised to discover that she'd already finished it.
Her fancy drink was gone! And she didn’t even remember tasting it.
In that moment it struck her that she'd been running her life, for so long that when she's doing stuff, including fun stuff, she's not sure she's actually enjoying it. She’s not “in it” somehow.
It gave her the awareness that she's not having the full experience of her life as she's living it. The tragedy wasn’t the dissipated, expensive drink. It was life passing her by while she's in her head and out of her body.
And she knew she wasn't alone.
So she decided she needed something simple and easy to jolt her into the present, while she lived out her life week by week, and the one word that came to her mind was:
How much pleasure do you allow yourself to experience?
Here are 3 simple ways (Susie found) to dial up pleasure, pronto:
Next time you buy a coffee, a tea, a salad, a sandwich— pause, just for a second and consider the word PLEASURE, then dig in and savor the tastes and actually enjoy the dang meal?
Set an alarm on your phone to go off at random times of the day. An alarm that pops up when you least expect it with the one word: PLEASURE.
One day, Susie was hurriedly running around doing errands when it started to sprinkle and the word PLEASURE popped up on her phone. She took a deep inhale, looked around and noticed how refreshing the air felt. She also remembered how pleasant the smell of a little rain can be, when you take a nice whiff.
Another time, she was with her girlfriends at an outdoor restaurant checking her emails (like most of us do) and PLEASURE popped up. She looked up and truly saw her friends faces. One of them was laughing. In that moment, she said it was if she were seeing life in high def. She put down her phone and dove into the fun and conversations.
TUNE INTO YOUR SENSES LIKE SUSIE DID.
Many of us spend a good chunk o’ change on products we love, but when was the last time you really took pleasure in 'looking' at them and 'feeling' the texture of what you bought?
And give yourself pleasure whenever you can, like you learned on DAY 8 in:
and discover ALL the comforting, enjoyable ways to bring more pleasure into your life, every day of your life!
Maybe you need to adjust your sitting, put a pillow behind your back, snatch a blanket or pour that glass of wine or tea you were thinking of enjoying.
If you’re feeling thirsty, get up and go grab yourself a refreshing glass of water, put it in something fun and add a tangy lime. While up turn on your favorite music you’d like to listen to. Give yourself any little pleasure you can, at any moment you can, because when the pleasure ENDS the overeating begins.
ALWAYS COME BACK TO THE WORD PLEASURE!
AS SUSIE TOLD US:Coming back to the word PLEASURE will kick a mundane day into amazing living color. Whether you’re running errands in the rain, preparing your breakfast, petting your dog, calling your sister or even sitting on a commuter subway listening to the hum of the train, remember "pleasure, pleasure, pleasure," and.....
Life Will Change Instantly and Just Be Delicious!
