WHAT ACTUALLY IS A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?
Well, let's see....
A healthy lifestyle means you don't smoke, you maintain a healthy weight, you keep yourself hydrated and you eat healthy foods with fruits, veggies, protein and fiber and of course, you exercise on a regular basis.
It also means you know how to manage stress, get good blissful sleep each night and you don't drink too much or sit too much.... basically, you do everything in moderation, all the time.
When you look at everything that could possibly go into a healthy lifestyle, you can see how challenging all of those things can be in our modern hectic world.
BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS....
you don't have to change everything ALL at once. In fact, the trick to healthy living is making SMALL ACTION STEPS each week, like adding leafy greens to your meals, having a few extra glasses of water or saying no to that second helping of buttered potatoes.
But the one way that’s so easy to help you live a healthier lifestyle is to MOVE MORE!
AND HERE'S WHY!
One of the biggest reasons most people put on the extra pounds (these days) is because we sit around too much. We know we need to exercise, but we have so many excuses not to do it. We're too busy, don't know where to start or we're just not motivated.
But the bottom line is, movement is exercise and every time you move more than you normally do, IT COUNTS! Moderate activities like chores, gardening and running around doing errands COUNT as exercise.
SO LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF MOVING MORE:
Improves joint stability
Improves range of motion
It helps maintain flexibility
Prevents osteoporosis and fractures
Improves mood and reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression
You can start the process of being healthier by adding a little more movement to your life, each day and week. Every little bit counts and it all adds up to boosting metabolism and burning more fat.
HERE ARE 4 SMALL STEPS TO MOVE YOUR BOOTY TOWARD BETTER HEALTH TODAY!
TURN OFF THE COMPUTER AND TV:
Just once a week, turn off the electronics and do something more physical with your family, neighbors or friends. Play some games or take part in a Frisbee or ball toss. Anything that will help you turn off the electronic screens, once a week.
Look for ways to walk more. If possible walk to work. Or when you go to the mall walk around part of the perimeter before you go shopping, or take a quick walk around your block when you arrive home or take your dog for an extra outing each day or walk on your treadmill for 5 minutes longer.
DO MORE CHORES:
Hey! You'd be surprised how well shoveling snow, working in the garden, raking leaves, washing windows, mopping the floor can keep you strong and healthy, not to mention, keep your house in order, too.
PACE WHILE YOU TALK:
When you're on the phone, pace around or even do some tidying up while gabbing. This is a great way to stay moving while multitasking your chores at the same time.
If you find that the bulk of your time is spent sitting, then make a list of all the ways you could move more, like getting up each hour to stretch or walking up and down the stairs at work. Just these TWO simple movements can do wonders.
MOVEMENT IS EXERCISE AND EVERY TIME YOU MOVE MORE THAN YOU NORMALLY DO, IT COUNTS!
WHAT TO DO NOW!
Just pick one of the activities above and work on that every day until it becomes automatic, then go on to the next change. You may be surprised that those small changes really will add up to a healthier you and a healthier life!.
